The colorful coatings design a better life! The 8th China International Exhibition for Coatings, Printing Inks and Surface Finishing (ASIACOAT2003) was held in Shanghaimart, on September 2-4, 2003, jointly organized by the authoritative organizations in China. More than 200 exhibitors at home and abroad including Bayer, Asahi Kasei, Mitsui Takeda and so forth showed their new technologies. More than ten thousand coatings-related visitors attended this exhibition.

    ASIACOAT2003 was organized by the organizations such as China National Coatings Industry Association, Changzhou Paint & Coatings Chemical Industry Research Institute and National Paint & Coatings Industry Information Center, and also co-organized by the organizations such as China Daily Use Chemical Industry Association Printing Ink Branch, China Surface Engineering Association, National Quality Supervision Testing Center for Paint and National Technical Committee of Paint and Pigment for Standardization. The above-mentioned organizations can represent the total authoritative organizations in the fields of the coatings and printing inks industry in China. ASIACOAT2003 was one of the largest international coating shows in China. The international coatings organizations including National Paint & Coatings Association (USA), CEPE and Japan Paint Manufacturers Association (JPMA), etc supported or attended this exhibition.
To maximize the exhibitors’ presence at this exhibition, and bring more benefits to the visitors, several specialty conferences were held during this exhibition. They were China Coatings New Thoughts & Strategy Conference, 20th Annual Conference on Coatings and Finishing Technology Development Strategy paralleling to International Coil Coatings and Finishing Forum, 3rd China Coatings Markets and the Annual Meeting on National Paint and Pigment for Standardization. About 2,000 attendees of these conferences visited the exhibition. In addition, many technical seminars were held paralleling to this exhibition.

    This exhibition has three noticeable features: Firstly, most of the leading companies in Chinese market, who involved their business in additives, participated in this exhibition, for instance, BYK, EFKA, Cognis, Worlee, EJ, San Nopco, Asahi Denka and Oceanpower, Shenyang Application Technology Experimental Factory, and Huate Group, etc. Secondly, the domestically leading companies in the field of TiO2 industry participated in this exhibition, for instance, Zhenjiang Titanium Dioxide, Sichuan Lomon, Yugang Titanium Dioxide, Zibo Cobalt and so on. In addition, Titan Crimea SJSC from Ukraine participated in this exhibition for the first time. Thirdly, Japan Paint Manufacturers Association (JPMA) organized more than twenty of its members as a business group to take part in this exhibition in order to show its public image as a whole.

    ASIACOAT2004 will be held in Beijing, on September 21-23 next year, with its theme operated as “Environmental Friendly Coatings Contributing to Green Olympic Games”. The forthcoming exhibition and its paralleling specialty conferences will drive their issues closer to the daily life and the demand of Olympic facilities construction. Many efforts will be made to develop coatings technology for achieving a real “Green Olympic Games”.
