In order to promote the development of fluor coatings in our country, on the base of holding three Symposiums on Fluoropolymer and Fluoro-resin based Coatings, National Paint & Coatings Industry Information Center and Society of Coatings & Finishing of CIESC held the 4th Symposium on Fluoropolymer and Fluoro-resin based Coatings on July 15-17, 2003, in Changshu, Jiangsu successfully.

    Society of Coatings & Finishing of CIESC Fluor Coatings Branch was established in this conference, which could standardize our burgeoning fluor coatings market, direct the market to develop correctly and serve for research, production and management. The society confirmed CNCCC Changzhou Paint & Coatings Chemical Industry Research Center as director organization, and confirmed Zhong Hao New Chemical Materials Co.,Ltd., Zhejiang Lantian Environmental Protective High-tech Corporation, Dalian Zhenbang Fluor Coatings Corporation, Jiangsu Chenguang Chemicals Co.,Ltd. and China Petroleum Chemical & Industry Association War Industry Office as vice directors organizations. The branch society also retained Jiang Qing (China Petroleum Chemical & Industry Association Science & Technology Department), Huang Qi (Construction Department China Architectural Metal Structure Association Aluminum Door and Window Curtain Society) and Cao Shuhuai (China Petroleum Chemical & Industry Association War Industry Office) as directors. The secretary-general was Chen Hong, vice secretary-general of Society Coatings & Finishing of CIESC.

    During the symposium, Zhong Hao Paper Choosing Campaign was also held, and embodied 35 papers into paper corpus. After living communicating and expert grading, Shen Mingjie (Zhejiang Lantian Environmental Protective High-tech Corporation) got the first award by The Development of Fluorocarbon Coatings; Jie Beibei (China Petroleum Group Technology Research Institute) and Sun Hongyao (Nanjing Irrigation Science Research Institute) got the second award separately by Application of Fluorocarbon Coatings in External Anticorrosion of Petroleum Can and Discussion of Usage Life of Protective Coatings. Wang Shuxian (Shanxi Jali Coatings Industry Corporation), Zhu Dong (CNCCC Changzhou Paint & Coatings Industry Information Center) and Wang Jun (Dalian Zhenbang Fluor Coatings Corporation R & D Department) got the third award by The Research and Produce of New Fluorocarbon Metal Paint, The Use and Test of PVDF Coatings and Application of Close Isocyanate in Fluorocarbon Coatings. Leaders of organizer and co-organizer awarded the winners certificates and bonus. This activity promoted the technical communication among insiders, and also promoted the technical development of fluor coatings.

    This symposium also introduced new fluoropolymer and fluoro-resin based coatings technology and products, presented the standards of fluor coatings, and organized attendees to visit Jiangsu Fluor Chemical Industry Zone.

Effect

    As the first national large conference after Sars, the representatives reached 214, coming from 168 corporations, among which 1/4 had senior titles. It demonstrated that this symposium was welcomed and responded well by representatives because it accommodated to development of fluoropolymer and fluoro-resin based coatings in our country.

    According to the feedback of representatives, the symposium achieved great success and received good effect.

    97% representatives thought the general effect of this symposium was good, 87% thought the contents were abundant, 93% thought the conference service was good, 75% would like to attend next symposium, and 40% would like to contribute paper for next symposium.

The representatives also raised their opinions and suggestion:

1) Strength the depth of technical communication, or invite well-known experts to give lectures.

2) Introduce the latest development and trend of fluor coatings, and provide suggestion for insiders’ production and management.

3) Increase the communication about application, and introduce knowledge about test and standards.

4) Increase discussion time, or hold seminars.

5) Give each symposium a subject to enhance pertinence.

6) Hold an international conference every two years.
