R The Cleaner Production Promotion Law of the People's Republic of China came into force on January 1st, 2003.

R Ten national mandatory safety standards in Limits of Harmful Substances in Indoor Decoration and Refurbishing Materials came into force on January 1st, 2002. In which two standards related to coatings industry have shown an important impact on the coatings industry.

R During the year of 2003, the relevant national authorities will carry out the "Mandatory Certification on Products Specified by Mandatory Standards", among of which two categories of coatings products (i.e. interior architectural coatings, woodenware solvent based coatings) and its related raw materials are included. Those who fail to be qualified for the mandatory certification can't be entitled to manufacture and market these categories of products. This measure will show a more noticeable impact on the coatings industry.

R The two organizations (National Quality Supervision Testing Center for Paint and National Technical Committee of Paint and Pigments for Standardization) are jointly preparing for the "Mandatory Certification on Products Specified by Mandatory Standards". As the co-organizers of ASIACOAT2003, they will also offer the valuable services for the ASIACOAT2003 exhibitors. The exhibitors will be timely informed of the updated development of the mandatory certification work.
