Bayer is one of the successful raw material corporations that enter Chinese coatings market, which depends on its technical strength, market effect strategy and the relation with Chinese customers. In the last years, Bayer increases investment and sets up new factories in Shanghai continuously, which shows the confidence and decision of exerting Chinese market. Recently, Dr. Claus Kobusch, Manager of Bayer Pigments Dept. (China), introduced the development in China to journalist of Paint & Finishing Consultant.

Bayer has been in China for more than 100 years and develops quiet well. Its Desmodur isocyanate, Desmophen polyalcohol and Bayferrox Pigments are going up by dozens in the last 10 years. Chinese market develops faster in technology, including high quality coatings system especially polyurethane, and the environmental protective principles become more detailed, which are helpful to the development of Bayer in China.

The target of Bayer is to provide the best raw material settlement for worldwide customers. For example, our customers like to produce higher standard products to meet various environmental protective requirements, or need higher quality raw material to raise product efficiency, for which Bayer is always researching. Just because of this strategy, we develop well all around the world. Therefore, what we provide is not a cheap, merchandized and popular commodity, but a complete set of production and service, including technical service, content current service and the field technical service for customers.

Bayer faces the worldwide dead-alive economics by strengthening service continuously. We see the local customers as the same as other big customers. We are near them and can offer various services, which is the reason of building a factory in Shanghai. We can produce localized products during local people and these products fit China’s environment, application field, construction and formula, as well as supply more quickly. At the same time, these products still use the global uniform quality standard. In a word, we’ll provide Chinese customers international service during localized production.

Bayer doesn’t only produce polycarbonate, but also polyurethane raw material, such as TDI, MDI and HDI. In China, we’ll produce a series of polyisocyanate like Desmodur N/L/E, and they are all accorded with global standard. For instance, compared to other TDI products, the content of TDI free monomer in Bayer’s products is much lower.

At the same time, all our technical representatives have high technical level because we’d like to offer best technical support for our customers. In Asiacoat this year, we still emphasize customers’ requirement. We not only display some products, but also meet customer’ requirement. When they find right product, we also provide corresponding technical settlement scheme.

Certainly, a factory cannot settle all problems, which is a start of our investment in China. In succession, we’ll extend product line and produce some environmental protective products such as aqueous raw materials, so we will have a short-term development in China. Our target is to establish best cooperation relation with our customers. We will help them use Bayer’s products as well as the newest technology in the world.

We always keep good relationship with Chinese government, whatever the central government or Shanghai government. It is well known that Premier Zhu Rongji had attended the foundation ceremony of our factory. We know that China need most advanced environmental protective technology and products and we’re willing to provide such technology. Since the 1st quarter, 2003, the new factory can produce aliphatic and aromatic polyisocyanate.
