Presently, Shunda Syntech Synthetic Resin Co., Ltd. held a communication conference about coil and automotive coatings with 4 raw material suppliers in Shanghai, which achieved a great success. The editor of Paint & Finishing Consultation, Hu Jingwei, took part in the conference and interviewed the General Manager, Ye Hanci.
Hu: Shunda Syntech Synthetic Resin Co., Ltd. is an important coatings resin supplier in China. As one of the founders of this corporation, could you please introduce your corporation?

Ye: Syntech is a HongKong owned corporation, which put into production in 1998 and is a young corporation. Since foundation, our company develops quickly with a growth rate of 20% annually. The reason of our success within this short time is that we have selected a high start point.
    Actually, Syntech is a branch of a foreign resin manufacture in China, so we adopted European equipment and technology earlier than other Chinese corporations. At the beginning, we oriented the selection of software and hardware in modern level. Then, corporation tries best to use high-grade management and eliminates short-time behavior, with a decision to compete with imported products. Therefore, we have got rapid development within short times.

Hu: How do you orient your products in market, and how do you assure the quality?

Ye: Our corporation oriented in middle and high grade at first, in order to produce excellent resins instead of imported resins. At the beginning of foundation, we ushered compositions and equipments from Italy, and adopted strict regulations to control processing and management. Therefore, Syntech always retains stable quality. In 2000, Syntech passed ISO 9001:2000 Quality Certification and ISO 4001:1996 Environment Certification, being the first corporations that passed this certification in resin industry. At present, our corporation is Guangdong High Technology Corporation and Shunde Coating Resin Engerineering R & D Center.

Hu: It is known that the most influenceable product was resin for wood lacquer at first, but way do you transfer to coil, aotomotive, can, metal and plastic fields?

Ye: Syntech transferred to resins for canned coatings and automotive refinishes from 2002, and finished compounded work in 2003. This year, we’ll finish compounded work of coil coatings and OEM coatings. We’re confident that Syntech will produce higher-grade products for coatings manufacturers. Through this transformation, I found that the earliest change is of the most importance, which means most pressure and risk as well as largest gain.

Hu: How do you adjust your distribution strategy to enter domestic resins for coil, automotive and metal coatings markets?

Ye: The production and distribution in China concentrate in southern areas, while above markets concentrate in Eastern China. In order to enter the markets, Syntech stared investigation from 2001 and has established Eastern China sales office in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. In 2003, we also set storehouse in Shanghai to contact eastern customers more conveniently.

Hu: Could you talk about the next plan of your corporation?

Ye: Although Syntech has got achievement in these years, we should recognize the distances from MNCs. In one way, we’ll continue adopting foreign advanced technology, and in the other way, we’ll strengthen the cooperation with research institute. Nowadays, we are cooperating with Changzhou Paint & Coatings Chemical Research Institute to establish open laboratory. We’ll digest, absorb, change and improve. At the same time, we’re planned to extend our 3rd period construction in 2005 or 2006. The competition of domestic resins becomes fiercer and fiercer, so we should develop quickly to become the well-known national brand to compete with advanced foreign products.
