Nowadays, waterborne coating has made sufficient preparation in technique, application and promotion, so it will become the most popular coating type next year.

    In China’s coating market, there are too many middle and low grade products while too few high grade products, which provides broad market for low pollution waterborne coatings. Some experts pointed that the demand for commercial waterborne coatings is most urgent, which need more than 1 million tons annually.

    The fast development of automobile industry is the main drive of increase of commercial waterborne coatings. It is estimated that the growth rate of automotive coatings is not less than 30%. There are 0.8 million tons VOC every year, which wastes 3 billion yuan. If waterborne coatings could replace 1/3 conventional coatings, 1 billion yuan can be saved. The statistics show that China need 1.7 million tons commercial coatings annually, and about 1 million tons could be replaced by waterborne anticorrosive coatings. In 2005, the application of waterborne commercial coatings will take up 35%.

    In Architectural coatings, the annual output of Chinese building coatings will reach 1.8 million tons in 2005 and the application rate of exterior coatings will be more than 35%. In 2015, the output will reach 3 million tons and the rate will be more than 60%, where most conventional coatings will be replaced by environmental protective waterborne coatings.

    However, few manufacturers could produce eligible waterborne coatings in our market. Among 8 000 coatings manufacturers, only 30 manufacturers could produce waterborne coatings that accord with latest requirements, such as Dulux, Nippon, Dengta, etc.
