During 50 years’ development, the production and processing system of fluororesin in our country have formed initial scale. Its application fields have expanded from aviation and war industry to petroleum, chemicals, mechanicals, textile and architecture industry. In addition, its application in automobile, electronics, medicals and optics also increases quickly. At present, although the quantity of fluororesin has met customer’s demand, the quality and type are far away from foreign products.

Severe Superfluous Low Quality Production Capacity
    Relevant data showed that production scale of fluororesin grows quickly. For example, we produced PTFE 17 900 t in 2003, increasing 30% compared to last year. However, the growth rate of domestic consumption market is only 10%. It seems that our throughput of fluororesin has been overmuch, while most products are of low quality and low technology. The competition of these lower products will influence the development of higher products.

Abundant Import of High Quality Products
    At the same time of overmuch low quality products, we also lack of mediate and high quality products. For instance, PVDF is the second largest fluororesin type in the world and it mainly applies on fluorocarbon coatings, IT products and mobile phone battery with huge developing potential. The total annual output in the world is 25 000 t, while our country only produces 300 t/a, only 1% of the total. Because we mainly import these high technology products to meet domestic market, the prices are quite high. The foreign large coatings corporations monopolize China market and raise pressure on domestic corporations.

Active Reply of Domestic Corporations
    Our corporations have been conscious of above phenomenon, so they are trying to develop our fluororesin industry into a higher level.

    Shanghai 3F New Materials Co.,Ltd. is one of the earliest corporations that engage R&D of fluororesin. Guo Weidong, manager of market and technology support department, said 3F has entered automobile industry and is trying to enter IT industry. IT industry requires large quantities of high-grade fluororesins especially high clean degree, but we haven’t relevant products yet. 3F Corporation is researching products and plans to capture this difficult technology within 3 years.

    Zhong Hao Chenguang Research Institute of Chemical Industry is another leading research corporation of fluororesin, which highlights the modification of PTFE. They have developed a new product, CGF 201, pelletizing stream, which has good fluidity and easy application and improves production efficiency to a large extent. Chenguang is also developing new dispersion resin of high compressed ratio. Meanwhile, they also research PFA, F46 and F40.

    Our fluororesin industry should develop towards high technology, which is the one and only outlet of this industry. Therefore, the relevant corporations should hold worldwide developing stream, use advanced technology, build innovative system and fasten research, escaping from low-level repeating construction.
