The production technology of color coat steel was originated in America. Since 1960s, this technology has developed quickly especially in America and Japan.

    In China, the spring up of consumption and production of color coat steel began in late 1990s. As far as 2003, our country has had 124 corporations and 169 coat lines, and the production capacity has reached 8.74 million tons. However, our efficiency is quite low since our equipment and technology are quite poor. The output in 2003 of our country was 1.4546 million tons. We imported 1.1016 million tons and exported only 16.2 thousand tons.

    China Steel Industry Association estimated that domestic demand for color coat steel will reach 4.3 million tons in 2005, and 8 million tons in 2008. At present, the largest demand comes from architectural market, which takes up 95% of the total consumption, while the house wiring only takes up quite a little ratio. Therefore, there is still broad prospect of color coat steel application in our domestic market.

    For the domestic manufacturers of color coat steel, they should develop new kinds and improve technology contents. Our market is huge, but the competition is becoming fiercer and fiercer. The steel manufacturers should keep cooperation with coating manufacturers and downstream manufacturers to realize co-win.
