    Because the prices of major raw materials of epoxy resin—dian and epoxy chloropropane continue increasing, the prices of epoxy resin have also increased. The price of E-12 epoxy resin for powder coatings has reached 26 000yuan/t and is still increasing. It is known from China Epoxy Resin Industry Association that many powder coatings manufacturers have used low acid value polyester resin instead of epoxy resin. If the epoxy resin prices continue increasing, they will keep on reducing usage of epoxy, which will result tremendous drop of epoxy resin demand.

    In normal formulations of hybrid powder coatings, epoxy resin and polyester resin take up 30% respectively. At present, the price of polyesters is 10 000yuan/t lower than epoxy resin. When the price of polyesters is stable while the epoxy resin is larger than 26 000yuan/t, many powder coatings manufacturers will adopt the formulations of all polyesters to reduce the cost. At that time, the production and sale of epoxy resins will be influenced to a large degree.
