According to the development speed of national economics and actuality of latest coatings industry, the experts predicted that demand for coatings in our country in 2005 would reach 25.5 million tons. Generally, industrial coatings take up 35%~50%, architectural coatings 45%~50% and specialty coatings 10%~15%.

    Insiders pointed that there would be four development trends of our coatings industry. Firstly, corporations will become specialization and collectivization. Secondly, products will become high technology, high quality and multi-function. Thirdly, types will become environmental protection. Fourthly, market will expand to the whole world.

    Therefore, experts raise following suggestion:
1. Promote the development of waterborne, high solid, solventless and powder coatings.
2. Build technical corporations. Since 1999, all scientific research institutes which belonged to administration have transferred to enterprises,which could transfer the scientific technology to productivity directly and quickly.
3. Adjust product structure and promote well-known brands. Corporations should definite their own advantages and characteristic products, and then eliminate those bad ones and retain good ones.
