If compare our domestic waterborne automobile coatings with foreign ones, we feel disappointed. If compare our latest waterborne automobile coatings with bypast ones, we could find the great development. In last ten years, many coatings manufacturers have developed waterborne industrial coatings by themselves. However, as for automobile coatings that demand for high weather resistance and decoration, waterborne technologies are not mature.

    Since last year, the markup of feedstock has made coatings corporations reduce cost to survive, without paying attention to environmental protection. In addition, most domestic coatings companies would not like to pay much capital on technical repertory. These elements embarrass the development of waterborne automobile coatings.

    On the other hand, because domestic automobile manufacturers also need reduce cost, they don’t utilize expensive and new waterborne coatings, which made waterborne coatings remain in laboratory.

    Considering actuality of domestic production, many existing coating lines could be changed to adapt to waterborne coatings. For example, control the temperature and humidity of spraying room: (23±3)?, 40%~70%. At present, an actual process is EC (baking under 160 ?~180 ?)—spraying waterborne inter-coating—pre-baking (80 ?/10 min)—baking (150 ?/30 min)—spraying waterborne metallic paint—pre-baking (80 ?/10 min)—spraying solvent high solids finish—baking (130 ?/30 min).
